moving from internalized oppression & Grounding in self-love
What: In this workshop we will start to disentangle from the ideas of “self” given to us by the oppressive systems we live within and begin to tap into our own gold. Through live soundscapes and intuitive movement, we will access our bodies and the information they carry for attunement, our ability to act on purpose, and joyfully step into the sun.
Why: Through our experiences in this life, we communicate with and teach our bodies how to hold us/protect us, and we use our bodies to communicate with others. In this iteration of our world, the external messages we receive and send to the body can be toxic and cause harm to us and others in our path. In order to break free from this paradigm, we need to welcome in our inner guide, our intuition, and lead with courageous love for ourselves, our flaws, our aspirations, and lessons, so we can be open to information and messages from within. |
A Collective unburdening- Women's salon
Who: Female-identified survivors of sexual harassment/assault, in particular, those who have made the decision not to make their experiences public or are sitting with that question. I hold this space with support from Sexual Wellness Coach, Betsy Perez @mybodyofwords and Meditation Healer, Crysta Bloom @thekindcocoamama
Why: Survivors courageously speaking out in the past and now has created a huge and necessary cultural shift toward a less patriarchal society. However, emphasis by dominant culture on speaking out as the exclusive tool for healing and justice can sometimes leave those of us who are healing privately with a lack of support, resources, and affirmation.
In this salon, we dialogue around the power of personal transformation for collective justice, exchange tactics for self-care and creating inner peace when a source of your pain holds power in your community/is a public figure, and explore through writing, meditation, and sound.

Room to Breathe, a black Healing Space
Who: Black people seeking space to gather, process, and celebrate the varying experiences of Blackness in America.
Why: With so much focus on advocacy and protest, we also need to prioritize and make space for our self-care. Additionally, conversations around race and racism often focus on how we respond to and cope with confronting white supremacy from others. With this space, we also explore the ways we have internalized those messages and perpetuate this, and other oppressive systems, within ourselves and with one another. In order for us to rebuild our society and potentially institutions in a manner that is rooted in liberation, we need to free ourselves internally from the impacts of those systems, so we can see and meet ourselves and one another unencumbered. This series give us space to pause, breathe, grieve, and have joy by engaging with our bodies, minds, and spirit.
The most recent Room to Breathe with The Centre for Social Innovation included sessions with:
Visual Artist, Nichole Washington
Theater Artist and Hip Hop Storyteller, Malik Work
Breathwork Healer, Ayurvedic Wellness Counselor and Yoga Teacher, Regina
Movement Artist, Jasmine Hearn
Holistic Sex Educator, Essayist, and Perfoming Artist, Betsy Perez

self-care FOR COLLECTIVE JUSTICE
Who: People interesting in engaging social justice work with the crucial foundation of personal analysis, generative discomfort, and compassionate accountability
Why: Self-care is a vital tool for genuine collective action, and while it is often presented as exclusively a pleasant and affirming experience, it also requires personal accountability and confronting difficult truths. In this workshop, we will use our voice and bodies to begin releasing toxic behaviors and ideologies that limit us and keep us separate from our deepest selves and one another.
