As a consultant, I partner with arts institutions and non-profits to to offer evaluation, facilitation, and tools for action in the areas of equity and justice.  Some offerings include:

Anti-Racist/Anti-Oppression Workshops
Wielding my experience as a former civil rights attorney and interdisciplinary artist, RKG workshops employ theater games/collaborative activities, academic research, structural analysis, and other tactics for internal transformation that support the creation and implementation of policies and action rooted in anti-racism, collective visioning, and holistic change. An example of possible workshop topics:
  • Institutional & Structural Racism/Oppression,
  • Implicit Bias & Internalized, Interpersonal Racism/Oppression
  • Tokenism,
  • Equitable Hiring & Recruitment,
  • De-Centering Whiteness (curriculum, season selection, etc),
  • Community Responsiveness v. Saviorism,
  • Self-Care to Combat Weathering Oppression, and
  • Moving from Ally to Co-Conspirator

Community Agreements
The Community Agreement process (also known as group contract or community covenant) is a consensus-driven practice establishing what it means to work together in a way that honors individuality and the needs of the collective as well as creating a path for accountability in respecting those needs. This is not about creating rules. It’s about creating and clarifying agreements and expectations that allow everyone in the community to participate from a place of wholeness and respect. In order for these agreements to be meaningful, they need to come from the group itself. Once a group creates its agreements, this process or the agreements themselves can be used again. This process can be used to for rehearsal codes of conduct, office practices, refining organizational values, and other areas where collaboration is present.

Community Assessment and Action Plan
A Community Assessment and Action Plan provides a snapshot of perceptions and experiences of the community concerning equity, holistic representation, and justice. This process utilizes collective visioning, surveys, confidential interviews and possibly focus groups to gather information about what’s working well and what are areas for growth. From this assessment, a movement plan is created to align the collective vision with structure and actions of the institution or organization.

Internal Change Team Support
Shifting culture toward equity within an institution or organization can be practically and emotionally challenging.  With a deliberate and explicit eye on the intersection of our various identities, I support Affinity Groups and/or DEIA Teams in clarifying target change goals, creating internal equity assessment, building solidarity with others, refining advocacy skills, and identifying concrete action steps for culture change.

Peace Circles for Conflict Resolution
Peace Circles are derived from a Restorative Justice (RJ) model that, like other RJ practices, can be used to address conflict holistically rather than the exclusionary punitive policies and practices. Peace circles emphasize healing and learning through a collective group process, aiming to repair harm done and assign responsibility by talking through the problem. Peace circles combine reconciliation, responsibility, and community healing.

Post-Production Community Engagement/Activism Sessions
Because the systems of oppression that confine society live within each of us, there are no stories about or an expression of our human experience that does not touch upon those systems in some way. As a post-production engagement consultant, I create experiences for the audience that support their engagement of the themes of the work, and connect those themes to actions they can take toward our collective liberation after they leave the performance.
