All workshops and facilitated sessions are interactive and incorporate the arts in exploring the concepts identified.
CONVERSATIONS ON RACE & RACISM
Rebecca combines her background as an educator and actor with the critical analysis of race and racism developed as a civil rights advocate to facilitate dialogue around race. She will work with you to design a session specific to your group or community that:
Exercises in Black Liberation
This workshop is designed to begin the process of decolonizing the minds of youth by examining racially coded messages in mainstream media and beyond.
Identifying and Responding to Colorblind Racism
This workshop acknowledges that whether overt, subtle or unseen, racial biases operate in our institutions, media, and can infiltrate actions and unconscious attitudes. From this foundation, participants unpack four specific frameworks that underpin colorblind racism and engage in careful self-reflection about the ways to dismantle it internally and externally.
This workshop is designed for new and seasoned educators. The session helps the participants think critically about the ubiquity of white culture in educational content and to proactively de-center whiteness when lesson planning.
Introduction to Implicit Bias
This workshop is designed for adults and young adults interested in learning about the unconscious attitudes and behaviors that can dictate our behavior leading to potentially discriminating action.
What's a Microagression and Why Does it Matter?
This workshop is designed to share the meaning, impact, and underpinnings of microagressions.
"Rebecca's ability to facilitate an open space to talk about sensitive issues comes second to none! She was a perfect fit for Open Hearts in that she really gave people the freedom to feel what the felt and express it in a unique way. Being that most of the attendees are artists, she was able to tie in really fun exercises that allowed us to use our artistic perspective to express our sadness, pain and frustration. Her exercises were well thought out and executed with impeccable care and knowledge of the room. Open Hearts will most certainly have her back!"
-Khori Petinaud- Founder of Open Hearts
"Rebecca led an amazing workshop for our congregation on “Challenging and Identifying Racism in a Colorblind Community.” Her style of engagement is generous, warm, funny, and strong. She knows exactly what she is trying to convey, the information she needs to unpack, all in an approachable and manageable format. What was most impressive was the time she took when I first contacted her to understand who our community is and what our goals are. Rebecca then devised a brand new game for us based on that initial conversation. This was no cookie-cutter repeat program. I can’t recommend her highly enough!"
-Rabbi Peter Schweitzer, The City Congregation for Humanistic Judaism, New York City
"It was amazing to see Rebecca Kelly Golfman facilitate a session with our Global Kids Leaders at Curtis High School. Thank you Rebecca for having such a profound impact on this group!"
-Emilie Clark, Global Kids
"I was recently embraced and included within a diverse community of souls discussing Race and systemic racism under the guidance of guest speaker Rebecca Golfman at my first Open Hearts event, created by Khori Petinaud. Here, the idea of "artivism" was first introduced to me by Ms. Golfman with her humble grace and her enlightening astuteness. Her gentle nature engages her audience with her unassuming, yet fearless and confident, words of wisdom for all people of color. Rebecca Golfman's presence is a force to be reckoned with, and is a name that will not easily be forgotten."

"I am in awe of Rebecca's teaching ability. She provided an open, safe environment to speak, ask questions, listen. Truly fantastic. She made me think and do in ways I have not done before and I am inspired still to carry forward with love and resilience regarding social issues in today's world."
